The following FAQ should answer most of your questions. This FAQ is divided into the following sections:

1. What is The Hostel Handbook? The Handbook is a directory style listing of all the hostels in the USA and Canada. There is a print version of The Handbook which is updated each fall for publication in January. There is an Online Version of the Handbook located at www.hostelhandbook.com  The Basic Listing in The Handbook Print Edition and Online is Free. The Basic Listing includes the following: Hostel Name, Hostel Address, Telephone, Affiliation (if any), Price, Email and Website Address. In exchange for the Free Basic Listing, we ask that you put a logo and hyperlink to www.hostelhandbook.com on your homepage or at the top of your "Links" page. 2. How can I add a new listing?

Check the online listings to be sure you are not already listed. If you are not currently listed in the Handbook, getting listed is simple: fill out the New Hostel Listing Form. I will need the info listed above for the Free Basic Listing. When I receive this information I will set up your online listing immediately. I will also add you to my database. In October of each year you will receive an update form. Use this form to update your Basic Listing and to order advertising in the Print Edition and Online.

3. How can I update my current listing?

The best way to update your existing listing is to send in the Update Form that you receive in October of each year. This will insure that your listing is updated in the next print edition of the book and in the online listings. After December the print edition is sent to the printer.  No changes can be made until the next edition - 12 months later. I can make changes in the online listing. 4. How can I advertise in the Print Edition?

Advertising products are available in the print edition starting at $50 for a comment line to a full page ad for $1,400.00. With the purchase of any advertising product you also receive free handbook in sufficient number to pay for the ad. For instance, a Quarter Page Ad is $400 and you receive 125 free Handbooks. The Handbooks carry a cover price of $4.

5. How can I advertise in the Online Edition?

Advertising is available online as Online Comment Lines (up to 4) and as Banners.  The banners are hyperlinked to your webpage.  Banners are sold as an annual subscription that runs from January to January.   Hostels do not receive any additonal books with banner advertising.   Online advertising rates are as follows:
